Allergy From Pollen

Pollen is a microscopic round or oval grain, produced by plants. It is used for fertilization. When these particles enter the nasal passages of non allergic person, the mucus simply moves the particles to the throat where they are swallowed or coughed out. But in an allergic person, as soon as the pollen affects the mucous membranes of the nose, a reaction occurs that lead the mast cells in these tissues to release histamine. These chemicals expand the small vessels in the nose. Fluids flow through these expanded vessel walls which result in nasal congestion, and swell the nasal passages.

Pollens are basically the small particles that travel through the air to fertilize other plants and flowers. Most of the pollen allergy symptoms occur when anyone of you is exposed to the proteins in the pollen as they travel through the air. You have an allergic reaction, because your body views these proteins as an “invader” and reacts accordingly. Most of the pollen allergies generate from different trees, weeds and grasses.

Pollen allergy generates in human being mostly in spring seasons as compared to winter and other seasons. Most of the persons also say that the spring season is often referred to as “allergy season”. Many people get affected by this allergy only in these seasons, because many plants do pollinate in the spring, and many plants pollinate at other time during the year.

There are many symptoms of pollen allergy, like itchy water eyes, runny nose, itchy throat, hives, fatigue, and irritability. Most of the pollen allergy symptoms can last for weeks or even months, depending on how long the offending pollen is in the air.
